Regarding BY THE LIGHT OF THE SILVERY MOON,
only recently did I recover the missing introduction, which is about two minutes long and contains some dialog from an old "cogger" astonomer who is looking up at the Moon through his telescope. The telescope is transfored into a rocket, propelled by a battling cat and dog placed inside. The rocket races through space becoming a comet that sort of "sky writes" the invitation to join in and sing.

It was my disappointment that certain SONG CAR-TUNES were not available at the time, but the origianl program was designed in a way to add them at a future date. While the state of the economy dictates what future productions may entitle, it is my expectation to produce a revised edition of KO-KO SONG CAR-TUNES, which was winner of the Platinum Award for short subject documentaries in the WorldFest Houston, 2003.

Rachel...

Saw your Looney Tunes list over at Cartoon Brew, and it was refreshing to see an entry where you mentioned the Jones-era cartoons, and not so favorably. I see way too many One Froggy Evening and What's Opera Doc entries, which make me doubt people's selection criteria. My list has more obscure references (Hush My Mouse and We The Animals Squeak to name a few), but my selections are basically like yours - they make me laugh out loud!

I think the Daffy Duck cartoon you're referencing is actually "The Great Piggy Bank Robbery." "Daffy Doodles" is a Robert McKimson cartoon...

Rachel,

Yes,..I can relate to the Skype issues too! I totally understand. Hey,..your posts are awesome too so keep on posting!!! Love to read more about Terrytoons, and UPA stuff too! You may be able to simply record your thoughts on an voice recorder and load them up as an .mp3 option too. Perhaps record a conversation with Kevin through conventional means or some phone recording device and then post it. I don't know...I'm exploring other options myself too.

Either way,....you both are great!!

take care,
Todd

The Orphan Toons podcast isn't dead, just "in stasis", you might say.

You're right--even though Kevin and I both enjoyed the experience, it was exhausting for both of us. I had plans for at least eight more two-hour shows, but we were worn out and needed a break. A long one.

I also discovered that Skype, the program I use to allow Kevin and me to talk to one another, doesn't work well on my ancient wreck of a computer--a lot of popping, cutoff words and static. Not to mention Skype only worked half the time, and would usually fail when I most desperately needed it (wouldn't it just?)

I'm afraid the podcasts are going to have to wait until I can get more memory--or better still, another computer.

This is a great site!!! I love your updates and interesting facts about the cartoons of yesteryear!! Is the podcast ever coming back? Just curious. I know that it had to be pretty time consuming to produce,...but it sure was nice to listen to.

Added note: The listed retail price of $26.95 is due to our issuing our DVDs on the TDK Durabis scratch-proof disc. This is an area of interest for serious collectors and buyers for educational outlets that experience extended use and handling. As such, we are among the only independent producers offering DVDs on this medium, which is also rated for use on Blu-Ray. But these discs costs more. Accordingly, the price has been raised $5.00 and has remained at this rate for the past two years. This increase does not seem to have affected our sales, however, as all parties interested in this subject continue to order with great satisfaction for what they are getting.

I want to thank you for the wonderful review of KO-KO SONG CAR-TUNES, which was the Platinum Award Winner in the Short Subject documentary category at The Huston Worldfest 2004. While it was my intention to fil a complete hour, the condition of some of the other surviving films required more money than was available in order to fully restore the other films. This release came after waiting two years due the the shrinkage of the negatives that I bought in June, 2000.
Other tiles that were intended for inclusion were mentioned in the program with an eye towards including them at a later date. One title, OH, HOW I HATE TO GET UP IN THE MORNING has completely deteriorated in its negative form, and there is no present knowledge of surviving prints. Only recently have I come into a complete version of BY THE LIGHT OF THE SILVERY MOON, which was missing the opening two minute cartoon lead in.

In all, it has been an adventure and a delight to find these rare examples of animation history, and it has been my privilege to be able to reintroduce them to the public for appreciation and greater understanding of our motion picture and animation history.
